Herb Lubalin was known for ignoring typography rules of kerning and leading, and making pictures out of text. He also resisted the trend of the day for "Swiss style" or sans serifs, so I knew I wanted to stay away from those when creating this design. I wanted to give a nod to his style while keeping a fresh, modern look. I had fun incorporating updated versions of the characters that appear in the book interacting with the synopsis of the book on the inside front flap, and having the maze that plays a major role in the book as the backdrop to the whole cover. I kept the front cover, back cover, and spine clean and simple, with just the pops of yellow to draw the eye.
